Abstract
Os odontoideum is a relatively rare disease. Its etiology is not clear, but related with traumatic episode, Although asymptomatic, atlantoaxial instability can lead to sever or permanent neurologic compromise after minor trauma if not treated by
cervical fusion. The patient with cervical cord compression must be treated by decompression and cervical fusion.
A 17-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with about 14-year history of quadriparesis. She had a history of trauma at 14 years ago. The patient showed an relatively good outcome after posterior fusion and laminectomy of the atlas combined
with
decompression of the lower posterior fossa, foramen magnum and dural plasty.
